The Man Shed

So many good things go on within the confines of a man’s shed.  It is a space where a man can feel at peace ‘pottering around’ amongst dirt, rubbish and tools.  Both creation and destruction can be undertaken here without rules or regulations, success or failure.  But whatever material results quality shed time can produce, they are no match for the benefits upstairs.  I reckon my school principal father spends most of his weekend in his purpose built shed as it is haven where life is simple.  There are no meetings, disciplinary hearings or needy teachers.  It is just you, a broken down paint covered transistor and your thoughts. If there is an issue, it does not need to be discussed.  Just pondered over for a time then resolved….with your hands. Continue reading

Make a vow

Name this musician: They have performed on What Now, came second place at the smoke-free Rockquest at age 14 and sung the national anthem at the NPC rugby final between Waikato and dorkland at age 12.  Talk about NZ music credentials!  Oh and the giveaway clue – she was the funky chick with the sweet voice on Gotye’s epically successful track ‘Somebody that I used to know’. Who else could it be but the kiwi born, Melbourne made songstress, Kimbra.  Now that the Gotye track has been played 5 squillion times on the radio let’s check out her debut album Vows released in August 2011.
